Eriu Insular Illuminated Tarot

For my college Thesis Project, I created a set of Twenty-Two pop-up tunnel books representing the 22 Tarot triumph cards.

Each card has seven layers in the image (Six cut outs and one background layer) but can fold completely flat. Each of the cards is based on a traditional Irish myth that corresponds to the intent behind its specifically correlated Tarot card.

The colors are based on what pigments would have been accessible to the scribes who worked on the Book Of Kells and other illuminated manuscripts of that time period.

Each card was hung on an under lit and rotating display and accompanied by a poster that both outlined the traditional meaning behind each card as well as the myth my card was based upon.
